Liverpool are making a determined push to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad as the club looks to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are prepared to go all out to secure the 25-year-old’s signature, either by negotiating a deal with Sociedad or by triggering his release clause.
Zubimendi, who recently helped Spain win the Euro 2024 in Germany, is seen as the ideal candidate to bolster Liverpool’s midfield. The club believes his qualities will complement Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister, who were brought in last summer.
New Liverpool manager Arne Slot, known for his preference for a possession-based style of play, views Zubimendi as a perfect fit for the defensive midfield role in his system. Zubimendi’s experience in the Champions League and his ability to control the game make him an attractive option for Slot’s plans.
Last season, Liverpool, under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp, won the League Cup and secured a third-place finish in the Premier League.
With Slot now at the helm, the club is aiming to build on that success, and the potential addition of Zubimendi could be a key factor in their quest for silverware.
