FUFA Super 8 defending champions BUL FC continued their title defense with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kitara FC in the competition’s semi-finals on Saturday, August 10, at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
A solitary strike from Pascal Ngobi in the 64th minute was enough to secure BUL’s place in the final, keeping their hopes of retaining the trophy alive.
BUL entered the semi-finals on the back of a commanding 4-1 aggregate victory over Maroons.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, they showcased their dominance in the second leg, with new signing Isaac Wagoina scoring twice and Dickson Mataama adding another to secure a 3-0 win.
Kitara, on the other hand, had reached the semi-finals by defeating KCCA FC 4-3 on aggregate.
They won the first leg 1-0, and in a thrilling second leg, they held the Kasasiro Boys to a 3-3 draw, a match highlighted by a stunning goal from Denis Omedi.
In the final set for August 31, BUL will face the winner of Sunday’s clash between Vipers and the Uganda Cranes Select Team, while Kitara will compete in the third-place final against the loser of the above match.
Meanwhile, in the FUFA Super 8 Round 2 ranking match (placement semi-final), NEC FC advanced to the third-place final after defeating SC Villa 4-3 on penalties.
The match ended 2-2 in regular time, with Villa taking an early 2-0 lead through Andrew Otim’s brace in the 9th and 16th minutes.
However, NEC mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, with goals from Paul Mucureezi and Enock Ssebaggala forcing the game to penalties.
Mucureezi, NEC’s new signing, eventually scored the winning penalty, sending his team to the third-place final, where they will face the winner of the KCCA vs Maroons match.
Villa, on the other hand, will play the loser of that game in the battle for fifth place.
