There has been increasing uncertainty over the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
And given the fact that it was not discussed when the CAF Executive Committee convened in June left proceedings in suspense.
However, the tournament will still go on though not as earlier planned for September 2024 but January 2025 at least going by the words of Uganda’s state minister of sports Peter Ogwang.
“Uganda will be ready to host both CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027,” Ogwang said at the commissioning of the Local Organising Committee offices in Lugogo on Tuesday.
“We need to comply to CAF requirements of four training grounds for both tournaments and three are already in place.”
“Makerere University grounds was inspected and it will be developed in addition to Kadiba, the outside pitch of Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, and Kyambogo,” the Parliamentarian noted.
As co-hosts of AFCON 2027, a successful 2025 CHAN will show a glimpse of how ready Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are to bring the biggest sporting event in Africa to East Africa.
Uganda and Tanzania are expected to host two groups of CHAN while their counterpart Kenya will host the other pool.
The exact dates in January 2025 remain unknown but now there is a clear picture that the tournament is not dead completely.
