Angola Aim High After AFCON Heroics

Angola, buoyed by their impressive run to the Round of 16 at the last Africa Cup of Nations, has set its sights on qualifying for the 2025 edition in Morocco.

The Sable Antelopes, once considered underdogs, have shed that label after their strong performance in Cote d’Ivoire.

Coach Pedro Gonçalves is cautiously optimistic about his team’s chances in Group F, which pits them against four-time champions Ghana, Sudan, and Niger.

Despite acknowledging the strength of their opponents, Gonçalves believes Angola can compete at the highest level.

“We’ve shown that we can compete with the best,” Gonçalves said. “While Group F is undoubtedly tough, we have the potential to reach the final stage. We’ll do everything in our power to represent Angola proudly.”

The Portuguese tactician highlighted the challenges posed by each opponent: Ghana, a perennial powerhouse with a wealth of talent; Sudan, a rising force enjoying a successful World Cup qualification campaign; and Niger, a determined side eager to make its mark.

Angola’s journey to Morocco 2025 begins with a challenging away match against Ghana. The qualifiers will be played on a home-and-away basis, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the tournament.
