The suspension of Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates captain Ivan Magomu has been the talk around town for a couple of days now.
He was suspended for 24-weeks and relieved of his national team captaincy after he was found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute.
His name and situation must have been in the minds of his teammates heading into the Mbale 7s over the weekend.
Pirates needed no more motivation than the above which eventually paid dividends for them to clinch the second circuit title.
They edged the Nile Special Rugby Premiership champions, Heathens 7-5 in a closely contested final on Sunday evening.
The Sea Robbers took over from Rhinos who won the Entebbe circuit and would later dedicate their triumph to their captain via social media.
Meanwhile, Avengers defeated Black Pearls 14-7 to win the Women’s category. Heading into the Mbale 7s, Black Pearls had won the circuit in Entebbe.
Pirates’ Desire Ayera and Avengers’ Juliet Nandawula were named the Most Valuable Players in the men’s and women’s category, respectively.
The Nile Special 7s will return to Kampala next weekend for the Kyadondo 7s.
