The KIU Titans managed to pull off a hard-fought 81-77 victory against the Namuwongo Blazers in Game Two of the National Basketball League semifinals, tying the series at 1-1.
The game, held at Lugogo Indoor Arena, saw the Titans take control early on. By the end of the first quarter, they held a 20-16 advantage and expanded their lead to 43-33 at halftime.
The Titans continued to dominate in the third quarter, opening up a 21-point lead and seemingly cruising to an easy win.
However, the Blazers refused to back down. In the final quarter, they launched a fierce comeback, cutting the Titans’ lead to just five points with three minutes left on the clock.
Despite their determined effort, the Blazers fell short, and the Titans held firm to claim the four-point win.
Peter Obleng led KIU’s offence with 19 points, while Tembo Kasereka and Joel Lukoji Banza added 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Contributions from Edgar Munaaba and Collins Kasujja, who each scored 10 points, also played a key role in the victory.
The Blazers, despite their shooting struggles from beyond the arc – converting only 6 of 31 attempts – were strong under the basket, out-rebounding the Titans 59-42.
Innocent Ochera led all scorers with 25 points for the Blazers, supported by Jimmy Williams with 21 points, and Joseph Chuma, who recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The two teams will face off again in Game Three on Tuesday, August 20, at Lugogo, with both sides aiming to take the lead in this closely contested semifinal series.
