The 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games kicked off with a mix of fortunes for Ugandan representatives in the girls’ football category.
Co-hosts Amus College of Uganda faced a challenging start, suffering a 2-0 defeat against Kenya’s champions, Butere Girls.
The match, played yesterday morning, saw the visitors take control early on, with Joy Angela Valencia scoring the first goal just before halftime.
Valencia then doubled Butere’s lead in the second half, leaving Amus to regroup for their next match.
In stark contrast, Uganda’s St Noa Girls celebrated a perfect beginning to their campaign, securing a 2-0 victory over Tanzanite SS from Tanzania.
Goals from Sylvia Kabene and Sumayiah Nalumu propelled St Noa to a confident win, establishing them as a formidable force in East Africa’s girls’ football scene.
Other results from Monday’s action included a goalless draw between Alliance Secondary from Tanzania and GS Rumera-Rukoma from Rwanda.
Similarly, Nyakach Girls from Kenya and St Joseph’s Girls Kitale also shared the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate.
The action continues today as Amus College will be eager to bounce back when they face fellow Ugandan side Rines Secondary School in a Group B clash at 9 am.
Meanwhile, Butere Girls will look to maintain their winning momentum against GS Rumera-Rukoma also at 9 am.
In Group A, Kawempe Moslem of Uganda will clash with St Joseph’s Kitale from Kenya at 3 pm, while Tanzanite Secondary aims to recover from their loss against St Noa, as they face Nyakach Girls from Kenya at the same time.
