Joseph Kigozi, Deputy CEO of Next Media and General Manager of NBS Sport, emphasised the significance of this partnership
“The main objective of the NBS Sport partnership with the Cancer Run is to join hands with the organisers of this crucial initiative to combat the scourge of cancer,” he stated.
“NBS Sport and NBS coming on board this year is a sign of our commitment to the support of such a great initiative” he added
This year marks the 12th edition of the Rotary Cancer Run, which has become one of the largest mobilisations for cancer awareness in Uganda.
Kigozi expressed gratitude to the organisers for their continued efforts in making this event a success.
“I want to thank the organisers for consistently organizing the Cancer Run. It plays a vital role in raising awareness about cancer in our country,” he said.
Kigozi revealed that NBS Sport will provide live coverage of the event, ensuring that viewers can experience the atmosphere from the comfort of their homes.
“Not every Ugandan will make it to Kololo, but as the official broadcaster, we will bring the event live to every part of Uganda and beyond through Afromobile,” Kigozi noted.
He also highlighted highlighted that the channel will provide all the pre-event updates about the event, to inform the public on how to contribute to the run.
Moses Oyoma, the Head of Sales at Next Media, encouraged the community to participate in the run, stating, “Come and run for this wonderful cause. I urge young people, parents, and children to join us for the biggest run of the year.”
The kits for the run are available for only UGX 30,000. The kits can be bought on the Rotary Cancer Run website https://register.rotaryugandacancer.org/
The Rotary Cancer Run aims to gather over 30,000 participants and raise at least UGX 3 billion.
All proceeds from the event will be directed towards completing the one-stop cancer centre at Nsambya Hospital.
In addition to the main event in Kampala, similar runs will be held in various towns across Uganda and in other countries.
Uganda reports over 35,000 new cancer cases annually, and 22,000 result in death. Initiatives like the Rotary Cancer Run are aimed at combating the deadly disease.
