Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende battled out to a goalless draw with this year’s co-hosts Bukedea Comprehensive in the Boys’ football category.
The match played at the Bukedea Comprehensive Sports Complex on Tuesday saw the two Ugandan footballing giants both come close to securing what would have been a famous victory, but ultimately fell short.
Kitende, eager to defend their title, displayed fierce determination on the field.
However, Bukedea, buoyed by their recent impressive performance at the ISF World Cup in China, and home support, matched their opponents stride for stride, refusing to back down.
The draw leaves both teams level on four points after two matches in Pool A.
St. Mary’s Kitende had previously opened their title defence with a convincing 2-0 victory over Kenya’s Highway Secondary School.
Meanwhile, Bukedea Comprehensive began their campaign with a strong 2-0 win against Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Secondary School.
In the current standings of Pool A, Kitende and Bukedea sit at the top, while St. Joseph’s Kitale from Kenya holds third place with one point from one match.
Benjamin Mkapa Secondary School is fourth with one point from two games, and Highway Secondary School is at the bottom with no points from their two matches.
Looking ahead, St. Mary’s Kitende will face Benjamin Mkapa on Friday, August 23, at 3 PM, followed by a showdown against St. Joseph’s Kitale on Saturday at 11 AM.
Bukedea Comprehensive, on the other hand, is set to take on St. Joseph’s Kitale today, Wednesday, at 11 AM, before facing Highway Secondary School on Saturday at 11 AM.
