FEASSA Games 2024: Co-Hosts Amus Bounce Back With First Win in Girls’ Football

Amus College School revived their knockout stage qualification hopes with a dominant 4-1 victory over Tanzania’s Alliance Secondary School in the Girls’ Football category, at the ongoing Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.

The Ugandan co-hosts, who had faced two consecutive losses in their opening fixtures, turned their fortunes around with a resounding win in their third fixture.

The match played yesterday at Amus College Stadium kicked off with high intensity as the 2023 National Champions wasted no time in making their intentions clear.

Just a minute into the game, Tamisi Shafiga found the back of the net, setting the tone for what would be a relentless performance.

The first goal was quickly followed by a brace from Opisa Shaylne and a goal from Aujat Doreen, sealing the victory and keeping Amus College’s tournament hopes alive.

This much-needed win comes after a disappointing start to the tournament, where Amus College fell 2-0 to Kenya’s Butere Girls and 2-0 to fellow Ugandan side Rines SS in their first two fixtures.

The poor start led to the dismissal of head coach Frank Video Anyau by the school’s proprietor Hon. Patrick Insiagi, as the team struggled to register even a single goal or point.

In other matches on the same day, defending champions in the girls’ football category, Kawempe Muslim, were held to a 1-1 draw by St. Noa Girls’ School in a thrilling Uganda derby.

St. Noa took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal from Sumayiah Nalumu, but Kawempe’s Monica Nanono equalised early in the second half to ensure both sides shared the spoils.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s Butere Girls continued their impressive form with a 2-0 victory over Uganda’s Rines SS, maintaining their 100% winning record in the tournament.

Action returns on Friday, August 23 with St. Noa Girls facing Kenya’s Nyakach Girls High School in a must-win match for automatic qualification.

Elsewhere, Kawempe Muslim will go up against Tanzania’s Tanzanite Secondary School, with both matches scheduled for 1:00 PM.
