Ugandan long-distance running sensation Joshua Cheptegei has received a significant boost towards the completion of his training center in Kapchorwa.
Tororo Cement, a leading cement manufacturer in Uganda, has handed over a dummy cheque worth UGX 100 million to Cheptegei, in recognition of his outstanding achievement at the recent Olympics in Paris, where he clinched the 10,000-meter gold medal.
The contribution from Tororo Cement is a major milestone in Cheptegei’s ambitious project to establish a state-of-the-art training facility.
With the center currently at 80% completion, the UGX 100 million injection will undoubtedly expedite its completion.
Cheptegei expressed his gratitude for the support, highlighting the positive impact the center is already having on young athletes in the region.
“Hundreds of talented young runners are coming here every day, training hard and dreaming of representing Uganda on the world stage,” he said.
“This center is not just about me; it’s about giving back to my community and inspiring the next generation of athletes.”
As Cheptegei transitions from track races to marathons, he believes that the improved facilities will provide him with the ideal environment to excel in his new endeavor.
“With the world-class training facilities here, I’m confident that I can continue to compete at the highest level and achieve even greater success,” he stated.
Tororo Cement’s Executive Director, B.M Gagrani, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that have a lasting impact on the community.
“Our contribution aligns with Tororo Cement’s motto of building for generations,” he said. “We believe that investing in the development of young athletes is a worthwhile endeavor that will benefit Uganda for years to come.”
