Uganda Cranes Depart for South Africa Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers

The Uganda Cranes have embarked on a journey to South Africa in preparation for their crucial opening fixture in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

The team is set to face Bafana Bafana on Friday, September 6th, at the Orlando Stadium.

Drawn in Group K, the Cranes have a challenging road ahead to secure their place in the final tournament.

Their campaign will kick off with the high-profile clash against South Africa, followed by a home fixture against Congo on September 9th at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

While the Uganda Cranes have assembled a strong 28-man provisional squad under the guidance of coach Paul Put, there have been some setbacks.

Defenders Halid Lwaliwa and Kenneth Ssemakula will unfortunately miss the South Africa match due to visa-related issues.

The team’s itinerary includes a return to Uganda on September 7th following their match against Bafana Bafana. This will allow them to regroup and prepare for the crucial home fixture against Congo.

The Uganda Cranes are aiming for a top-two finish in their group to secure a coveted spot in the final tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Morocco between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026.
