Newly-crowned FUFA Super 8 champions BUL Football Club have now set their sights on clinching next season’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) trophy, following their victory over Vipers SC in the final.
The match, held at Lugogo on Sunday night, saw BUL defend their title with a 6-5 win on penalties, marking their second consecutive Super 8 triumph.
Speaking shortly after the match, BUL head coach Abbey Kikomeko expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming season, citing the Super 8 victory as a major boost for the squad.
“Now that we’ve taken the trophy, it has motivated us very well. We expect a good start to the season,” Kikomeko stated.
“The tournament has prepared us very well because we’ve played harder teams, so I think by the time we begin the season, we’ll be very prepared.”
BUL, who finished second in last season’s SUPL with 56 points, just one point behind champions SC Villa, will be aiming to go one step further this time around, and win their first league title according to Kikomeko.
He was clear about the team’s ambitions stating, “Last season we finished second; definitely there’s nothing else apart from the trophy. We are targeting the league trophy, nothing else.”
The new StarTimes Uganda Premier League season is set to kick off on Friday, 13th September 2024.
BUL will begin their campaign away against Police at Kavumba Recreation Ground in Wakiso on Monday, 16th September at 4:00 PM.
Reflecting on their historic Super 8 win, Kikomeko praised his players for their determination and character.
“Vipers wanted the trophy, but we are the defending champions. So we prepared very well, and the boys played their hearts out. I’m very happy with the character of the boys,” he remarked.
