FUFA Super 8: BUL Write History

BUL have made history in the FUFA Super 8 by becoming the first team to win the competition twice.

The Oil Manufacturers defeated Vipers 6-5 on penalties following a goalless stalemate after normal and extra time at Lugogo on Sunday.

BUL didn’t only become the first team to win the FUFA Super 8 twice, but also became the first team to win it back to back.

Abbey Kikomeko’s charges also needed penalty shootouts to win their maiden title against URA at the same venue last year.

Coming into today’s final, both BUL and Vipers had the opportunity to make two FUFA Super 8 Cups and it’s the former that grabbed it.

The FUFA Super 8 Cup has now been played five times and it’s KCCA that clinched it during maiden season in 2018 after beating Onduparaka at Wankulukuku.

Vipers defeated the Kasasiro Boys at Wankulukuku in 2019 to win it.

BUL’s Road To The Second Title

Their journey began with a 1-1 stalemate against Maroons in the first leg of the quarterfinals at Kitende before they won the second leg 3-0 at Lugogo to advance to the semifinals 4-1 on aggregate.

It was a tougher semifinal opponent in Kitara but the Oil Manufacturers managed to defeat the Stanbic Uganda Cup winners 1-0 to book a date with the Venoms in the final.

The final may have taken a toll on them but not giving up no matter how long it takes is a thing they seem to have mastered.

Both teams scored their opening five penalty before they separated in sudden death when Lawrence Tezikya scored the sixth for BUL and Enock Luyima missed for Vipers.
