Uganda Rugby Cranes Invited to Willem Strauss International Rugby 7’s Tournament

The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has confirmed that both the men’s and women’s Uganda Rugby Cranes 7s teams have been invited to participate in the inaugural Willem Strauss International Rugby 7’s Tournament.

The prestigious event is set to take place from September 6th to 9th in Modimolle (Nylstroom), South Africa.

The Willem Strauss International Rugby 7’s Tournament will feature a strong field of international teams, including the renowned Blitzboks and the Springbok Women’s 7s team.

This tournament presents a valuable opportunity for the Uganda Rugby Cranes to compete against top-tier competition and gain crucial experience as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 Challenger Series.

“We are honored to receive this invitation and look forward to showcasing our talent on the international stage,” said Isaac Lutwama, CEO of the Uganda Rugby Union.

“This tournament will provide our teams with a chance to test their skills against some of the best players in the world.”

The URU has named the following squads for the tournament:

Men’s Squad:
* Allan Olango (Rhinos)
* Alex Aturinda (Pirates)
* Pius Ogena (KOBs)
* Malcolm Okello (Heathens)
* Aaron Tukei (Buffaloes)
* Norbert Okeny (Heathens)
* Denis Etwau (Heathens)
* William Lukwago (Mongers)
* Karim Arinaitwe (KOBs)
* Osuna Mark (KOBS)
* Mubarak Wandera (Pirates)
* Odrua Robin (Mongers)

Women’s Squad:
* Nabagala Grace (Kisubi Pacers)
* Akello Tina (Nile Rapids)
* Katesa Getrude (Kisubi Pacers)
* Namulala Unity (Nile Rapids)
* Namboozo Mastula (Mbale Eagles)
* Nadunga Rita (Black Pearls)
* Namulala Lydia (Black Pearls)
* Nandudu Jannat (Thunderbirds)
* Lekuru Peace (Avengers)
* Nakuya Agnes (Thunderbirds)
* Auma Grace (Black Pearls)
* Tino Esther (Mbale Eagles)

The Uganda Rugby Union has expressed gratitude to Blue Bulls Rugby for their partnership in making this participation possible.

The tournament is seen as a crucial step in the team’s preparation for the 2025 Challenger Series, where they aim to make a strong impact on the international rugby stage.
