Uganda Cranes Unveil New Kits Ahead of 2025 AFCON Qualifiers

The Uganda national football team, the Uganda Cranes, has unveiled its new kits ahead of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

In partnership with MTN Uganda, the new kits were launched on Thursday, marking the debut of a fresh era in sportswear as Janzi, a Ugandan clothing brand, takes over from Umbro as the official kit manufacturer.

Janzi replaces Umbro, which has been the Cranes’ kit manufacturer since December 2020. This change follows the expiration of the four-year deal with Umbro, which replaced Mafro.

The new kits feature a bold, partial-stripe pattern inspired by Uganda’s national flag colours; black, yellow, red, and white.

Four different sets were unveiled, with each kit displaying a unique combination of these colours.

The designs include a yellow kit as the main colour with black accents, a red kit with black, a white kit with black, and a striking black kit complemented by red and yellow details.

Fans will get their first look at the Uganda Cranes players sporting their new jerseys when they take on South Africa in Johannesburg in their opening game of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers tomorrow.

Janzi, which is owned by FUFA, was officially launched as the federation’s sportswear manufacturer in February 2024.

Beyond the national team kits, Janzi also produces the official FUFA matchball, “Zakayo,” and the referees’ attire, along with other sports equipment.

FUFA President Moses Magogo in February explained the decision to move to an in-house brand, highlighting the financial benefits of eliminating middlemen from the process.

“It has been studied that out of 100% money made by football, 90% is held by the middlemen. When we sell a branded jersey on the local market for 50,000 shillings, the actual cost could be 10,000 shillings. The manufacturer and tax expenses take up a significant portion of the profit,” Magogo said.

“With Janzi, we have created our own brand, and by doing so, we can control costs and add value to the products we offer,” he added.
