The draw for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20 CECAFA qualifiers has been conducted, with hosts Tanzania set to face Kenya in a highly anticipated matchup.
Uganda, the zonal qualifiers defending champions, have been placed in Group B alongside South Sudan, Burundi, and Ethiopia.
This group promises to be fiercely competitive as Uganda and South Sudan, who contested the last zonal final, will once again face off.
The Zonal qualifiers will be played from October 6th to 20th, 2024 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
The finalists will earn the right to represent CECAFA at the AFCON U-20 tournament next year.
Group A: Tanzania, Sudan, Rwanda, Djibouti, Kenya
Group B: Uganda, South Sudan, Burundi, Ethiopia
CECAFA Competitions Manager, Yusuf Mossi, expressed his anticipation for a competitive and exciting tournament in Tanzania.
“We hope to see some thrilling matches and great football from all participating teams,” he stated.
The next edition of the U-20 AFCON will take place in 2025 at a date and venue yet to be determined. The tournament will also double as the African qualifiers for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile where teams who reach the semi-finals stage qualify automatically.
