The Uganda Premier League Secretariat has confirmed the rescheduling of the match between Express and Mbale Heroes.
Originally slated for tomorrow, Saturday, September 14, the fixture will now be played on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 7 PM.
The change comes after the home side, Express, requested a postponement to allow for ongoing modifications at their home ground, Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo.
The stadium management is finalising key adjustments, which the Red Eagles stated are necessary to prepare the venue for the new season.
Express shared the update on their official X platform, citing the renovations: “Our game against Mbale Heroes has been postponed to Monday 16th September 2024 at 7 PM due to some renovations at Hamz Stadium. We regret any inconvenience caused.”
There is also anticipation of a different look to the playing surface, as the club hinted at the possibility of installing artificial turf: “Expect a different look of the turf then,” the club posted.
Hamz Stadium, which reopened on June 1 this year, has faced criticism from a section football fans regarding the quality of its playing surface.
The ongoing work seeks to address these concerns and improve the facility ahead of Express’ home matches this season.
With this rescheduling, the only StarTimes Uganda Premier League match set for Saturday, September 14, is between Lugazi and Kitara, and will kick-off at 4 PM at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.
Meanwhile, the 2024/25 season officially kicks off today, Friday, September 13, with KCCA taking on URA at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo at 7 PM.
