CAF President Inspects Kenya’s 2027 AFCON Stadiums

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe visited Kenya on Sunday, September 15th, to assess the country’s readiness to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania won the bid to host the continental competition in 2027.

Works on various stadiums across the three countries have been ongoing with the target of having a few stadiums up and running for CHAN 2024 which the three countries will host next year.

Accompanied by Kenyan Sports Minister Kipchumba Murkomen and Kenya Football Federation President Nick Mwendwa, Dr. Motsepe inspected several proposed venues, including the iconic Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo Stadium, and Talanta Stadium.

The stadiums were evaluated based on their infrastructure, capacity, and adherence to CAF’s stringent standards for hosting major international tournaments.

“Kenya has a rich footballing history, and I am impressed by the progress made in developing world-class sporting facilities,” Dr. Motsepe stated during his visit. “The proposed stadiums have the potential to create a memorable experience for both players and fans.”

East Africa’s successful hosting of the 2027 AFCON could significantly boost the region’s tourism industry and enhance its international sporting reputation.
