Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has fired a warning shot at Arsenal ahead of their highly anticipated Champions League group stage opener on Thursday.
Lookman, fresh off a goal and assist performance in Atalanta’s thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Fiorentina, is brimming with confidence and believes his team has a real shot at upsetting the English giants.
“We are charged and ready to face the match with the right spirit,” declared Lookman.
The Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo is set to be rocking on Thursday night as La Dea, returning to the Champions League after a one-year absence, welcomes Arsenal for their opening match.
While the Gunners boast a star-studded squad and are considered favorites on paper, Lookman is unfazed.
“Arsenal are a very strong team, and I know what to expect from them,” he acknowledged. “Playing against a team of that level is always a difficult challenge, but we are ready.”
Atalanta booked their Champions League ticket through a stellar Serie A campaign last season, and Lookman is determined to prove their rightful place on Europe’s biggest stage.
“We earned this place in the Champions League thanks to our great last season, and we want to show that we deserve to be here,” he emphasized. “The Gewiss Stadium will be full, and it will be a special environment for a European night like Thursday.”
Arsenal, meanwhile, won in the North London derby against rivals Tottenham Hotspur thanks to Gabriel’s header in the second half.
