The Normalisation Committee, tasked with overseeing netball in Uganda following the suspension of the Uganda Netball Federation’s (UNF) operations by the National Council of Sports (NCS), has confirmed that elections for the federation’s leadership will be held before the end of October.

This comes as part of efforts to reset and restore governance within Uganda’s netball community.

A key step in the process is the adoption of a new draft constitution, which will be discussed and voted on during the General Assembly scheduled for Saturday, September 21, in Lugogo.

The new constitution is seen as a foundational step in guiding the upcoming elections and future governance.

Speaking on the developments, Moses Mwase, Chairman of the Normalisation Committee, expressed the importance of holding the elections under the new guidelines. “Our goal is to conduct the elections under the guidance of the new constitution,” Mwase said.

In an interview with NBS Sport, Mwase acknowledged that the process had taken longer than anticipated but assured stakeholders that the reforms would be worth the wait.

Mwase also addressed suggestions for rebranding the federation, including a potential name change, signaling a fresh start for the sport in Uganda.

While calling for calm among stakeholders, he assured that these measures were aimed at ensuring a stable future for netball in the country.

In addition to the structural changes, Mwase revealed that some sponsors have committed to maintaining their support for the sport. This comes as positive news ahead of the anticipated resumption of the netball league, which is expected to begin soon.
