The tournament, which aimed to foster student engagement and promote a healthy lifestyle, featured nine teams representing various faculties and certificate programs.

Over the past week, these teams battled it out in a series of intense matches, culminating in a thrilling final showdown at Makerere University’s main playground.

In the end, the Faculty of Sciences emerged as the undisputed champions, securing the coveted trophy and medals. The Faculty of Business and Management claimed second place, while the Lawyers’ team rounded out the top three.

Ssenfumu George William, the captain of the victorious Faculty of Sciences team, expressed his delight at the win.

“We are so happy that this tournament has come to an end, and I feel incredibly proud of our team,” he said. “We never expected to reach this point, but with God’s grace, we’ve made it. We hope this victory will inspire other students to get involved in university sports and realize that there’s more to university life than just academics.”

The Interfaculty Sports Tournament was spearheaded by Victoria University’s Sports Minister, Anthony Twikirize, who emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for students in today’s digital age.

“This tournament is about more than just sports; it’s about fostering a sense of community and encouraging students to lead active, healthy lifestyles,” he stated.

However, Twikirize also highlighted the challenges faced in organizing the event, including limited facilities and financial constraints.

“We have faced significant financial difficulties, and as a growing university, we don’t have our own facilities,” he explained. “This has been a major setback, and we hope that the university will provide more support for future events.”

The Interfaculty Games will return in November.
