Finance Trust WSL: Kampala Queens Held by Wakiso Hill in Season Opener

Kampala Queens WFC have been held to a 1-1 draw by Wakiso Hill WFC in the season opener of the 2024/25 Finance Trust Bank Women Super League.

The match played at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo saw Kampala Queens, who finished second last season, dominate the early proceedings, with captain Shamirah Nalugya coming close to breaking the deadlock in the fifth minute.

Her effort struck the woodwork, denying the hosts an early lead. Nalugya threatened again in the 15th minute with a well-taken free-kick, but Wakiso Hill’s goalkeeper Halima Kasuubo was equal to the task, keeping the scores level.

The deadlock was finally broken on the hour mark when Kampala Queens’ new signing, Shamusha Najjuma, found the back of the net.

The goal seemed to set the “Queens of Soccer” on course for an opening day victory, much to the delight of their home supporters.

However, Wakiso Hill WFC had other ideas. In a dramatic turn of events, Judith Mawuwa silenced the home crowd with a expertly executed free-kick in the dying moments of the match, ensuring the points were shared.

The draw leaves both teams with work to do as they look ahead to their next fixtures.

Kampala Queens will travel to face She Corporate in Nakawa on Saturday, October 5, while Wakiso Hill face a tough test at home against reigning champions Kawempe Muslim WFC on Sunday.

The opening weekend of the Finance Trust Bank Women Super League continues tomorrow with three exciting fixtures.

All eyes will be on champions Kawempe Muslim WFC as they begin their title defense at home against Rines SS WFC.

Elsewhere, Lady Doves will host FC Tooro Queens in Masindi, and Amus College make the journey to the Olila Grounds to take on Olila HS WFC.
