Six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have bolstered their technical staff by appointing John Ayala Luyinda as their new assistant coach.
Luyinda, who joins from Wakiso Giants after his contract expriration in June, takes over as Nikola Kavazovic’s first assistant, with Fred Muhumuza moving to the role of second assistant.
This marks Luyinda’s second stint with the Venoms, having previously served as assistant to Abdallah Mubiru.
The highly-rated coach brings a wealth of experience. He has worked under renowned tacticians such as Mike Mutebi and George Nsimbe during his career.
Luyinda’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Vipers, who have had a rocky start to their 2024/25 Uganda Premier League campaign.
The Venoms have managed just one win in their opening three matches, suffering a 3-1 away defeat to NEC before bouncing back with a 3-0 victory over Express.
Their most recent outing ended in a goalless draw against newly-promoted Lugazi FC in Najjembe on Thursday.
During his two-year tenure at Wakiso Giants, Luyinda earned praise for implementing an attractive brand of football that made the Purple Sharks one of the most entertaining sides to watch in the league.
His experience and tactical acumen will be invaluable as Vipers look to steady the ship and mount a strong challenge for the title.
During his days as a football player, Luyinda featured for Kampala United, SC Villa, and KCCA FC.
As a coach, he has also had spells with KCCA and Police, working alongside Abdallah Mubiru at both clubs.
Luyinda’s return to Vipers will be put to an immediate test as the Venoms will be hosting bitter rivals and reigning UPL champions SC Villa in their next match at Kitende on October 5.
