Straight from earning a national team call-up, Derrick Nsibambi has sent KCCA top of the Uganda Premier League log.
On Tuesday morning, Nsibambi was summoned by Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put to the 27-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying doubleheader against neighbours South Sudan.
Later on in the day, he responded by scoring KCCA’s lone goal in the 1-0 win over Bright Stars at Kavumba which is his second of the season having also netted one in the 2-0 victory over Kitara on Friday.
Nsibambi’s goal came past the half-hour mark when the on-form Saidi Mayanja provided an assist for the former in the 32nd minute.
However, he did not return for the second half with an injury and was replaced by Emmanuel Anyama at the restart.
KCCA and Uganda Cranes and the player himself will be hoping that it is not a serious matter with national team duty on the horizon.
The three points lifted Abdallah Mubiru’s charges from the second to the first position with 10 points from four games, one point above NEC who have a game in hand.
On the other hand, the Stars remained in the relegation zone with two points in the 15th position after four outings.
KCCA’s next game will be a home game against UPDF after the international break on October 19 whilst Bright Stars will visit defending champions Villa a day before.
In the other game played on Tuesday, UPDF handed Wakiso Giants their first defeat of the season thanks to a narrow 1-0 through Samuel Ssekamatte’s goal from a penalty kick in the 57th minute at Bombo.
The win took the Army side level on seven points with the Purple Sharks in the fourth and third position, respectively with Wakiso carrying a better goal difference.
