A day after Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put summoned his squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers double header against South Sudan, his counterpart from the latter country has also named his squad.
Unlike Put who named a 27-man squad, Nicolas Jean Dupuis has a man short after summoning a 26-man provisional squad.
Dupuis’ team has a quartet of players who ply their trade in the Uganda Premier League with three of those summoned representing NEC.
The Diehards’ defenders Rashid Okocha and Atendele Geriga Mawa and midfielder Gadafi Wahab have been called up for national duty.
They have been instrumental in their club’s brilliant start to the season collecting maximum points in their opening three games.
Okocha scored the only goal of the game to earn NEC all three points in a 1-0 victory over UPDF at home, whilst Gadafi scored a stunner in the 2-1 win away to Kitara.
UPL defending champions Villa are also represented by their newly signed striker Francis Onekalit.
It is the above quartet that currently plays in Uganda professionally, but a couple of other players in the South Sudan squad have played here previously.
Star player Tito Okello will be one to watch in the Bright Stars team, and he is a former Vipers player. Solid defender Rashid Toha is also in and played for both the Venoms and Arua Hill.
Emmanuel Loki was recently released by KCCA and also played for Bright Stars whereas Ivan Wani once featured for Busoga United.
Alfred Leku is famously remembered for saving Express from being relegated in 2018 and also had stints with URA, Vipers, and Proline.
