The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a new VAR Academy workshop in Tanzania, aimed at training elite referees from across the continent in the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.
The workshop, which is part of CAF’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of officiating in African football, is being attended by referees from various regions, including Uganda.
A Ugandan trio led by FRSC boss Brian Miiro Nsubuga is participating in the training.
According to CAF officials, the VAR Academy is crucial for preparing referees to meet the demands of international competitions and national championships.
By mastering VAR technology, referees can make more accurate and consistent decisions, contributing to the overall growth of African football.
Workshops have already been completed in the WAFU B, COSAFA, and UNAF regions, and the Tanzania session is the latest in the series.
Uganda’s representation at the workshop includes referees Lucky Razak Kasalirwe and Dick Okello, as well as Referee Assessor Brian Miro Nsubuga.
The CAF VAR Academy is a significant step forward in advancing refereeing standards across Africa.
As VAR continues to play an increasingly important role in football, the training provided by the academy will equip referees with the skills and knowledge necessary to make accurate and fair decisions.
