AFCON 2025 Q: Onana Can’t Wait To Return To Uganda

Kenya will host Cameroon at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on Monday, October 14, in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, but the match will be played without fans in attendance.

This is after the Football Kenya Federation today confirmed that the game, part of the country’s double-header against Cameroon, will be held behind closed doors.

The game will be Cameroon’s return leg against Kenya, following their first-leg encounter at Japoma Stadium in Douala on October 11.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is yet again expected to be the main attraction during the game, and the decision has been made for security purposes.

Last month, thousands of Ugandan Manchester United supporters filled the stadium when Cameroon was held to a goalless draw by Zimbabwe, with scenes of excitement reported even by the international media.

The excitement for Onana’s presence extended beyond the pitch, as airport staff and fans eagerly surrounded him upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

After this level of attention, the fans hinted at an even bigger turnout for the match against Kenya.

However, with the latest announcement, fans will have to settle for catching a glimpse of the action from outside the stadium.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars, led by head coach Engin Firat, have already named their provisional squad for the doubleheader and are set to begin their residential camp on October 4.

These qualifiers are crucial for Kenya’s campaign to secure a place at the prestigious continental tournament, scheduled to be held in Morocco.

Kenya will look to secure a positive outcome in both matches as they aim to boost their chances in Group C of the AFCON qualifiers.
