The 25-player squad, accompanied by coaching staff, was flagged off by the Uganda Rugby Union Secretary General, Peter Odong.

The tournament, organized by the South African Rugby Union (SARL), offers a unique opportunity for young female rugby athletes in Africa to showcase their talents and compete at an international level.

“This is a proud moment for the entire rugby community in Uganda,” Odong said during the flag-off.

“The opportunity for our young women to compete at this level is a testament to the strategic direction of the Union in terms of developing the game,” he added.

The Uganda U20 Women’s Rugby team will kick off their campaign against Tunisia on October 4th, before facing the Junior Springbok Women on October 8th. All matches will be played in Stellenbosch.

Head Coach Brian Nobutaaila Makalama expressed his confidence in the squad and the experience they will gain from the tournament. “This tournament is a huge step forward for our young players,” he stated.

“We have a blend of players with raw talent and passion, and this is a platform for them to prove themselves against top-quality opposition,” added Brian Nobutaaila.

The team’s participation in the tournament has been made possible through the generous contributions and support of various partners and well-wishers via the U20 Harambee campaign.
