At the ForteBet Real Stars Monthly Awards, where the late rally driver Charles Muhangi was posthumously honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, his widow, Patience Muhangi, urged for greater participation in motorsport to enhance competition.
Charles Muhangi, who won Uganda’s first and only African rally title in 1999, remains a significant figure in the country’s motor rally history. Muhangi, who passed away in 2018, had an illustrious career that included victories in the Safari Rally, Pearl of Africa Rally, and the National Rally Championship.
Muhangi was honored at the awards ceremony held yesterday in Lugogo, where the best sportsmen of September were also recognized.
“Rally was in Charles Muhangi’s DNA, and I can attest that he was always ready to go the extra mile for the sport. He brought the African rally title to Uganda, but it should not end with him. I challenge the young people, with your abilities, to pursue careers in rally and continue the legacy,” Patience Muhangi said.
In addition to the tribute to Muhangi, other winners included Isaac Ariho, who led Uganda Prisons to a third consecutive woodball league title, winning the woodball award. Wakiso Giants forward Herbert Asiimwe claimed the football accolade, while heavyweight boxer Herbert Matovu, who defeated Tanzania’s Kheri Mbaruku for the African Boxing Union Regional title, took home the boxing honor.
The ForteBet Real Stars Monthly Awards are designed to recognize outstanding sportsmen.
