UPPC Takes Charge as Gaddafi Eyes UPL Promotion

Gaddafi FC is gearing up for a swift return to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) next season, following their relegation last year.

This ambition has received a major boost with the backing of the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC), which has taken over the club’s operations.

The partnership with UPPC is part of a broader vision to rebrand the club as UPPC FC, with a long-term goal of youth development through sports, particularly football.

This move will position Gaddafi FC as the fifth parastatal club in Uganda, alongside KCCA FC, URA FC, UPDF FC, and NEC FC, all of which are connected to government institutions.

Speaking on the development, Opio Joseph Okurut, Patron of UPPC and Gaddafi FC, expressed enthusiasm about the project:

“As UPPC, we are thrilled to be part of this exciting journey. We are committed to taking this club to new heights. The decision to partner with Gaddafi FC was strategic, and we believe great things are on the horizon,” Okurut said.

“Our immediate focus is to see the team bounce back to the top division, and to achieve this, we brought on board coach Allan Kabonge, who has a proven track record of securing promotion for clubs.”

Coach Allan Kabonge, who is renowned for guiding multiple teams to the UPL, was equally optimistic about the future. After Gaddafi FC’s 1-1 draw in their 2024/25 Big League opener against Kaaro Karungi, Kabonge noted:

“It was a solid start to the season, securing a point away from home. We will build on that and aim for our first win at home. This squad has immense potential, and with the support from UPPC, I am confident we can achieve promotion.”

“I’ve led several clubs to promotion, some in even more challenging circumstances, so I have no doubt we can succeed here with such strong backing,” Kabonge added.

Gaddafi FC will play their first home game of the season against Kigezi Home Boyz on Sunday, October 13, in Entebbe, as they continue their push for promotion.

With the support of UPPC, Gaddafi FC is poised to become a strong contender in Ugandan football, blending administrative stability with footballing ambition.
