Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly being considered for the vacant England manager position, and this could be positive news for Liverpool’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Following England’s defeat in the Euro 2024 final and Gareth Southgate’s subsequent departure, The Times claims the FA approached Guardiola to gauge his interest.
While the Spaniard has yet to make a decision, he did not rule out the possibility, with his current City contract expiring next summer.
This development could be a blessing in disguise for Alexander-Arnold, who struggled to find favor under Southgate.
However, under interim boss Lee Carsley, the 26-year-old has flourished, even earning three man of the match awards in his four appearances.
Guardiola has previously spoken highly of Alexander-Arnold’s attacking abilities. In 2022, ahead of a match against Liverpool, he praised the defender’s ball-playing skills and threat from set pieces.
There has, however, been a minor friction point between the two. Earlier this year, Alexander-Arnold sparked controversy by suggesting trophies held more significance for Liverpool than City due to the financial disparity between the clubs.
