Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has filed a claim against his former club for £11.5 million in unpaid wages.
The footballer claims that the Premier League champions withheld his salary after he was charged with sexual offenses in 2021, despite being later acquitted.
According to court documents, Mendy faced significant financial hardship during his legal battle, selling his home and borrowing money from teammates to cover legal fees and child support.
The defender alleges that a senior City official assured him he would receive his unpaid wages once the charges were dropped.
Manchester City has defended its decision to withhold Mendy’s salary, arguing that his bail conditions and a suspension from the Football Association prevented him from fulfilling his duties as a player.
The club maintains that it was not obligated to continue paying his wages under these circumstances. The employment tribunal hearing is expected to conclude on Tuesday.
