KCCA Stadium Completion Set For December

The Chairman, Board of Directors of KCCA FC, Eng. Andrew Serunjogi Mukiibi, has assured fans that the ongoing construction of one of the stands at the club’s MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo will be completed by the end of December 2024.

He made the announcement during an interview on the KCCA FC TV show, aired on NBS Sport, last evening.

“Our intention is to have the stadium completed by the end of December,” Serunjogi said.

He emphasized that the club, founded in 1963, is targeting December to coincide with its 61st anniversary celebrations.

“We’re targeting December because that is when we’re going to celebrate 61 years of KCCA, and the climax will be the launch of the stadium,” he added.

Construction at MTN Omondi Stadium began in 2021, but the project has faced several delays.

Initially set for completion last year, the timeline was pushed due to challenges related to the release and approval of funds.

In November 2023, club patron Erias Lukwago set a new completion date for August 2024, which was later adjusted to October and now to December.

Serunjogi explained that the latest delay was due to design changes that needed to be made following consultations with CAF (Confederation of African Football).

“The contractor requested an extension of two months as they were slightly behind schedule,” he said.

“The initial design had many columns supporting the upper stand, but when CAF visited, they pointed out that these columns were obstructing the view in the VIP boxes. We had to go back to the drawing board and redesign the stadium, which caused some delays.”

Despite these setbacks, Serunjogi is optimistic about the progress. “We’re now catching up with the schedule because the contractor has given us an accelerated work program,” he confirmed.

Once completed, the revamped MTN Omondi Stadium will meet CAF standards and boast several modern facilities.

According to Serunjogi, the stadium will feature a gym, bars, restaurants, boardrooms, accommodation for players, a museum, dressing and press rooms, as well as over 20 VIP boxes.
