Provisional Crested Cranes Squad Announced for DR Congo Friendlies

The Uganda Women’s National Football Team, the Crested Cranes, has unveiled a provisional squad of 38 players ahead of their upcoming international friendlies against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The two-match series is scheduled to take place in Kinshasa on October 27th and 30th, serving as crucial preparation for the CECAFA Women’s Championship in November.

Head Coach Sheryl Botes expressed her satisfaction with the squad selection, stating, “We last had a competitive engagement in December last year, and these friendly matches will provide us with a valuable opportunity to assess the players’ current level.”

“Unfortunately, we were unable to participate in the COSAFA Championships due to unforeseen circumstances, but we are grateful to DR Congo for allowing us to play these two friendlies,” she added.

The squad includes a mix of experienced players and promising young talents from various clubs in Uganda and abroad. Notably, five goalkeepers, ten defenders, thirteen midfielders, and nine forwards have been selected.

The players will assemble for a residential camp on Saturday, October 18th, with training sessions commencing the following day. Foreign-based players are expected to join the squad by October 21st.
