Coach Paul Put is optimistic about his team's chances

Uganda Cranes head coach, Paul Put, has expressed his gratitude to the team’s supporters following Uganda’s double victory over South Sudan in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualification campaign.

In a statement released on Friday, Put thanked fans for their unwavering support both at home and abroad, while emphasizing that the journey is far from over.

“We are enjoying good times on and off the pitch because of the support we get from you—the fans,” Put said, acknowledging the vital role fans played in Uganda’s recent triumphs.

“The double victory over our neighbors South Sudan was achieved because of the hard work of the players, technical team, and FUFA, led by President Magogo.”

Uganda Cranes defeated South Sudan twice, first at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala and then in Juba, propelling them to the top of Group K with 10 points.

However, despite these crucial wins, the team still requires one more point from their remaining two games to secure their place in the AFCON 2025 tournament.

Coach Put urged supporters to maintain their enthusiasm and back the team in the upcoming qualifiers, which will see Uganda face South Africa at home on November 15, before traveling to face Congo in the final group stage match.

“I know how much you supported the team in Nambole and in Juba 100% against South Sudan. It was massive,” Put continued. “But I need to remind you that the journey is not complete yet. Let us be there in big numbers again. See you in November.”

Uganda Cranes’ qualification campaign has been marked by strong performances on the field, including notable contributions from players like captain Khalid Aucho and midfielder Taddeo Lwanga, who was named Man of the Match in the win over South Sudan.

With two crucial games remaining, Uganda’s AFCON hopes are within reach, and Coach Put is counting on the nation to rally behind the Cranes once again as they seek to book their ticket to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
