Real Madrid Pump Brakes on Alexander-Arnold Pursuit in January

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future remains firmly at Anfield, with fresh comments from Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti suggesting a January transfer is off the table.

This comes despite reports earlier this month linking Los Blancos with a move for the Liverpool right-back following Dani Carvajal’s season-ending injury.

Carvajal’s ruptured ligaments and tendon in his right leg during Real Madrid’s win over Villarreal left Ancelotti with a defensive headache.

While Lucas Vazquez can fill the void at right-back, the Italian manager also sees Eder Militao as a viable option in that position.

Ancelotti emphasized his trust in the current squad, stating, “We have Lucas Vazquez, we trust him. Then there’s Eder Militao. I see him well as a right back, yes. I have not asked for new signings in January as last year we managed the situation well. Signing a player who will be good for Real Madrid is not easy. At the moment we are not thinking about it (signing a player in January).”

Meanwhile, reports suggest talks between Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold over a new contract are “progressing well,” with both sides confident of an extension.

The news comes as a relief to Liverpool fans, with Alexander-Arnold entering the final year of his current deal in June 2025.

The Athletic previously reported that Real Madrid had identified him as their top summer transfer target for the right-back position.
