Kenya’s U-17 women’s national football team, the Junior Starlets, have been eliminated from the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic with one group stage match remaining.
The young Kenyan team fought valiantly but fell short in their first two fixtures, losing 2-0 to England and 3-0 to North Korea.
These defeats left them needing a favorable outcome in the other Group C match between England and Mexico to have a chance of advancing.
Unfortunately, England secured a 4-2 win over Mexico, dashing Kenya’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage.
Despite the elimination, the Junior Starlets’ achievement of qualifying for the World Cup remains a historic milestone for Kenyan women’s football.
They are the first-ever Kenyan football team, male or female, to participate in a World Cup.
The Junior Starlets will conclude their participation in the tournament on Thursday with their final group stage match against Mexico.
