Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen etched his name into football history books this weekend with a spectacular overhead kick goal for Galatasaray against Antalyaspor.
The 3-0 victory for Galatasaray was overshadowed by Osimhen’s acrobatic feat in the dying minutes of the match.
Osimhen, who came on as a substitute for Mauro Icardi in the 78th minute, stole the show with a remarkable goal.
After a free-kick delivery from teammate Hakim Ziyech, Osimhen outmuscled his defender and launched into a powerful overhead kick that rocketed into the net.
Osimhen’s goal holds historical significance being one of only two overhead kicks in world football history to surpass the 2.30-meter height mark.
The record, however, remains with Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo, whose overhead kick against Juventus in the 2018 Champions League clocked in at a staggering 2.38 meters.
Osimhen’s effort fell just 0.06 meters short, making it the second-highest overhead kick ever recorded.
This goal marks a triumphant return for Osimhen, who missed Galatasaray’s previous two matches due to a muscle strain.
The injury also forced him out of the recent Super Eagles squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
