Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka expressed disappointment after his side’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday, admitting they failed to capitalize on their early dominance.
Saka, who made his return from injury, opened the scoring in the ninth minute. However, Liverpool fought back, with goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah securing a point for the Reds.
“We’re disappointed. I feel like we didn’t show our best selves for 90 minutes. We believe we should have won it,” Saka said.
“For sure, there’s definitely some positives. Liverpool are a top team, and credit to them. But the overall feeling is that we didn’t show our best selves for the whole game, especially more in the second half, and it cost us in the end,” he added.
The draw leaves Arsenal trailing Manchester City by five points and Liverpool by four in the Premier League title race.
Despite the setback, Saka’s return was a positive note for Arsenal. He reached a significant milestone, scoring his 50th Premier League goal for the club.
“Hopefully that can push us to some silverware as well,” he added.
Arsenal’s injury woes continued, with Gabriel and Jurrien Timber forced off the field.
Mikel Arteta expressed concern over the extent of their injuries, particularly Gabriel’s knee issue.
With a crucial match against Newcastle United on the horizon, Arsenal will be hoping to regroup and secure a vital victory.
