Back at Last: Kabaka’s Surprise Return for Masaza Cup Final

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, made a grand return to the Masaza Cup final, gracing the event at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, for the first time since 2021.

His presence added excitement and prestige to the 2024 showdown between Kyaggwe and Buddu, an eagerly awaited event in Uganda’s football calendar.

This year’s final carries special significance. Kyaggwe, reaching the Masaza Cup final for the first time, is in pursuit of their maiden title, while Buddu, appearing in their seventh final, aims to secure their third championship.

The Kabaka last attended a Masaza final at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where he witnessed Buddu’s 2-0 victory over Buweekula.

He missed the 2022 and 2023 finals, held at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, where Busiro and Bulemeezi emerged as champions.

With fans flocking to the recently refurbished Namboole Stadium, the Kabaka’s return has heightened the atmosphere of this historic event, marking a memorable day for Buganda’s rich sporting tradition.
