Unbeaten But Tested: Kawempe Muslim’s First Setback of the Season

Kawempe Muslim’s flawless start to the 2024/25 Finance Trust Bank Women Super League season ended on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by newcomers Amus College in Bukedea.

The five-time league champions entered Matchday Five with a perfect record, but faced strong resistance from an ambitious Amus side determined to make their mark.

Amus College struck first, with Esther Namataka finding the net just before halftime in the 45th minute.

Kawempe managed to equalize late in the game when a defensive miscue led to an own goal by Amus’ Amiya Jazira in the 88th minute, salvaging a point for the visitors and maintaining their unbeaten run.

Despite dropping points for the first time, Ayub Khalifa’s squad remains atop the table with 13 points, extending their lead.

Amus College, with the draw, dropped to third on the standings with eight points after Kampala Queens surged to second place with nine points following their 2-0 victory over Rines SS.

Kampala Queens Back on Track with Win Over Rines SS

Kampala Queens claimed their third victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Rines SS 2-0 at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, the Queens turned up the pressure, with Sumayah Nalumu and Zainah Nandede scoring back-to-back goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes.

The win lifted Kampala Queens to second place in the standings, adding a boost to their title aspirations.

She Maroons also enjoyed success over the weekend, taking a narrow 1-0 win against newly promoted Tooro Queens at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal.

Lillian Kasubo’s decisive goal in the 73rd minute secured all three points for the Luzira-based team.

Other Matchday Results

Elsewhere in the league, She Corporate and Makerere University played to a 1-1 draw, while Wakiso Hills and Uganda Martyrs battled to a goalless stalemate.

The other scheduled game between Lady Doves and Olila HS was postponed.

As the season intensifies, Kawempe Muslims’ lead faces new challenges, with teams like Kampala Queens and Amus College narrowing the gap as all eyes turn to Matchday Six next weekend.
