Uganda’s She Cranes have advanced to the third-place playoff at the Fast5 World Netball Series in New Zealand, achieving a new high compared to their previous debut.
This marks an improvement over their fifth-place finish in 2022, positioning them among the top four in the tournament this year.
After a challenging 37-20 loss to South Africa early on Sunday, Uganda bounced back with a powerful 43-26 win over Jamaica, the world’s fourth-ranked team.
Their strong showing secured them a rematch against South Africa to determine the third-place finisher.
Head coach Nelson Bogere reflected on the team’s growth and the significance of this achievement. “Last time we finished fifth, but reaching this playoff is a big step for us,” Bogere said.
He emphasized the team’s motivation and readiness, adding, “South Africa will come in strong, but so will we. It’s a big game, and we’re prepared.”
With Uganda currently ranked sixth in the world, the She Cranes’ performance at this year’s Fast5 has shown their capability to compete at a higher level.
