Kenya snatched the title of the second Uganda-Kenya Coast Open Golf Tournament, edging out Uganda by a mere point.
The thrilling competition, held at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante, saw Kenya secure a decisive victory with an average score of 32 points, while Uganda finished with 31 points.
This year’s tournament marked a reversal of fortunes for the two neighboring countries.
Uganda had triumphed in the inaugural event held in Mombasa earlier this year. However, Kenya’s golfers proved their prowess this time around, with Jimmy Odongkara emerging as the Men’s Winner after a stellar performance of 41 points.
The event was graced by a host of dignitaries, including Kenyan Ambassador Joach Maangi and Uganda’s State Minister for Tourism, Hon. Bahinduka Mugarra Martin.
The latter emphasized the significance of cross-border tourism, encouraging Kenyans to explore Uganda’s diverse offerings and spend more during their visits.
The tournament served as a prelude to the upcoming Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference, scheduled for November 20th-21st in Munyonyo.
This conference aims to strengthen tourism ties between the two nations and is expected to draw over 900 delegates from both public and private sectors.
With over 200 participants from Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, and other countries, this year’s tournament showcased the growing popularity of golf tourism in the region.
