In a statement on social media, CAF and FIFA-certified security expert Dixon ‘Bond’ Okello called for politicians to keep their distance from the Uganda Cranes camp as the national team prepares for crucial AFCON qualifiers.
Okello, who is well-regarded for his expertise in sports security, voiced concerns that political involvement often leads to disruptions and unfulfilled promises, adding unnecessary pressure on players.
“Let’s keep Politicians very far from the Uganda Cranes camp for now,” Okello tweeted, noting that politicians frequently seek to capitalize on high-stakes games to boost their own image, often with last-minute gestures that ultimately disrupt team preparations.
His warning emphasized that this kind of influence tends to be counterproductive, affecting player morale and focus when they need it most.
Okello also extended his warning to “false prophets,” stating that the team should avoid the distraction of superstitious influences.
Instead, he underscored the importance of unwavering faith, writing, “We believe in a mighty God.”
The Uganda Cranes are currently gearing up for matches against South Africa and Congo with Uganda just one point away from securing a spot in the AFCON 2025.
