In anticipation of this Saturday’s highly anticipated Elgon Cup return leg, captains from the Rugby Cranes and the Kenya Simbas gathered at Next Media Park for a ceremonial photoshoot on Thursday afternoon.
The symbolic event brought together Conrad Wanyama, captain of the Uganda Rugby Cranes, and George Nyambua, leader of the Kenya Simbas, ahead of their decisive match at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogerere.
Wanyama, who will be captaining Uganda for this crucial fixture with the assistance of Timothy Kisiga, shared his thoughts during a recent press briefing.
Reflecting on the Cranes’ narrow 27-25 loss to Kenya in the first leg in Nairobi, Wanyama expressed his team’s resolve to turn the tables on home soil.
“We know the stakes, and we’re ready. The team has been working hard in training, and our focus is on delivering a performance that makes our fans proud. We’ll play smart and use the home advantage to our benefit,” Wanyama noted.
Head coach Fred Mudoola has put together a formidable 23-man squad, blending experience with youthful vigor.
Key players include veterans Eliphaz Emong, Pius Ogena, Ian Muyanyi and Timothy Kisiga, who will be Wanyama’s vice-captain on Saturday.
For the Kenya Simbas, who will be looking to defend their two-point lead from the first leg, Nyambua leads a confident squad into Kampala.
Kickoff for the Elgon Cup decider is set for 4 p.m. local time and the match will be broadcast live on NBS Sport.
