The National Volleyball League Men’s Serie A delivered one of its most intense matchups of the season so far last night, as Nemostars narrowly defeated resilient Ndejje Sharks in a gripping five-set contest at MTN Arena, Lugogo.
Despite Nemostars emerging victorious with a 3-2 scoreline (25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12) over Ndejje, points were shared between the two sides.
The game saw Ndejje Sharks showcase tenacity, pushing the game to the limit as both teams battled point-for-point.
Nemostars took an early lead with a dominant first set, but Ndejje rallied back to claim the second, setting the tone for an evenly matched showdown.
The third set again saw Nemostars taking control, only for Ndejje to respond with a hard-fought win in the fourth, extending the match to a dramatic fifth set, where Nemostars ultimately claimed victory by a narrow margin.
In addition to the exhilarating action, the game also served as a fundraiser for Elyon Volleyball Club’s Silver Owinjo, who sustained a serious leg injury, during Elyon’s 3-0 loss to Nemostars last Sunday.
Nemostars had pledged that all ticket proceeds from yesterday’s match would go towards supporting Owinjo’s medical treatment.
Through this collective effort, UGX 366,100 was raised and handed over to Elyon Volleyball Club, represented by Kiyingi Sharif, marking a heartening show of solidarity within the volleyball community.
Prior to the Men’s Serie A fixture, the Women’s Serie A also saw action as Ndejje overcame KAVC in a competitive four-set match, securing a 3-1 win with set scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, and 25-18.
