The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, is scheduled to visit Uganda in December to assess the country’s preparedness for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025.
This news comes as part of a wider update from CAF regarding the tri-nation tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in February 2025.
Dr. Motsepe’s visit will involve inspections of stadiums and other infrastructure crucial for hosting the prestigious continental tournament.
During his visit, Dr. Motsepe will be briefed on the progress made by Uganda, alongside Kenya and Tanzania, in preparing their respective facilities for the CHAN.
The CAF President’s visit also coincides with a crucial meeting of the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) to be held in Tanzania.
Besides discussions on the progress of CHAN preparations, the EXCO will also discuss the recently announced pathway to secure $1 billion in investment for African football over the next eight years, a key initiative discussed at the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly.
The EXCO will also be briefed on the ongoing investigation into alleged governance non-compliance within the CAF Secretariat.
While his primary focus will be on the CHAN preparations, Dr. Motsepe’s trip will also involve attending key events related to women’s football.
He is expected to be present for the final of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in El Jadida, Morocco, on November 23rd, 2024.
He will also attend the draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 on November 22nd in Rabat. The WAFCON tournament itself is scheduled for July 2025.
