The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has announced the postponement of the 2024/25 Uganda Cup, citing the need to prioritize player welfare and allow for better alignment of the annual rugby calendar.

This decision follows extensive consultations between the URU Executive Committee, club chairpersons, and other stakeholders.

The postponement aims to provide players with adequate rest after an intense season, ensuring their health and performance are safeguarded.

In a statement released by Peter Odong, URU’s General Secretary, the organization emphasized that the move would also create an opportunity for stakeholders to plan and prepare for a well-organized tournament that reflects the high standards and values of rugby.

“The revised tournament dates will be confirmed and announced in due course,” the statement read. “We encourage fans and stakeholders to remain engaged through ongoing rugby community initiatives.”

While acknowledging the potential disappointment the decision may bring to fans and teams, URU reiterated its commitment to making the Uganda Cup a standout event on the national sports calendar.
