KCCA suffered a bitter defeat on Thursday, losing 1-0 to NEC in the Uganda Premier League.
What made the loss sting even more was that it came courtesy of their former players.
Paul Mucureezi and Muzamiru Mutyaba, both once pivotal players for KCCA, combined to deliver the game’s decisive moment.
In the 20th minute, Mucureezi provided an inch-perfect pass to Mutyaba, who unleashed a brilliant strike into the top-right corner, leaving goalkeeper Anthony Emojong with no chance.
The goal not only sealed NEC’s victory but also continued their dominance over KCCA at Lugogo.
This marked NEC’s second consecutive league win over the Kasasiro Boys on the road, following their 2-0 triumph last season.
Interestingly, NEC has now won more league games at Lugogo in meetings between the two sides, boasting two victories compared to KCCA’s solitary win.
However, KCCA did secure a narrow 1-0 win over NEC in the fifth-place playoff of the FUFA Super 8 back in August at the same venue.
The result had significant implications for the league standings.
NEC’s head coach, Hussein Mbalangu, celebrated a leap to the top of the table with 19 points after nine games, overtaking Abdallah Mubiru’s KCCA, who now find themselves trailing in the title race.
NEC’s latest triumph underscores their growing reputation as a formidable force, leaving KCCA with plenty to ponder as the season progresses.
